Steps required to acquire and implement a 100% Uptime Solution backup plan:

  1. If you follow this process in order, your website will continue to browse and accept email at its primary location and there will be no downtime whatsoever.

  2. Obtain your login information for your domain name registrar. Test it out or go through the process to acquire new password from them. Ask us if you need advice during this process. In some stubborn cases, you may need to fax them. Do NOT change nameservers at this time. Doing so will result in downtime for your site.

If you don't remember which registry your domain name is with, please use the search function at http://registrar.verisign-grs.com/whois/. Your registrar information will be returned in the results.

  3. Advise us that you wish to utilize a backup account. (order form) We will proceed with account setup and will enter the domain name DNS records into our 3rd party ultra fast DNS system. We will also process the DNS Failover entries that will automatically reroute your traffic and mail in case of disruption at the primary server, datacenter or external network providers.

  4. You will be given the backup account access details so you can load a website to be used as needed in times of outage at the primary site.

  5. Does this account use SSL Secure Server Access? You will need to note the name for shared SSL hosting on the server you move to or purchase a personal secure cert for $25/year. (ask us)

  6. Write down all of your current POP account names and your email forwarding choices. You will want this handy for duplicating POPs and forwards. You will need to create POP email accounts and/or handle email forwarding to your liking. Follow these directions. As a backup account, you might prefer to direct mails into a catch-all account or forward it to your ISP account.

  7. When done, log in at your registrar and initiate a DNS transfer to the nameservers seen below.

    1. ns1.dns22.com
    2. ns2.dns22.com
    3. ns3.dns22.com
    4. ns4.dns22.com
    5. ns5.dns22.com

    OR

    1. ns1.siteworks.com
    2. ns2.siteworks.com
    3. ns3.siteworks.com
    4. ns4.siteworks.com
    5. ns4.siteworks.com

    OR

    Your OWN vanity nameservers
    with these assigned IP#s:

    IP: 63.219.151.3
    IP: 205.234.154.1
    IP: 66.117.40.198
    IP: 216.129.109.1
    IP: 69.26.190.254

  8. One of the primary benefits of the 100% Uptime Solution is that mail will also route to you in case of failure. We do this by adding MX levels so that your backup location accepts mail for you. This is a bit tricky, because if your server was down for 1 hour of maintenance in the middle of the night, mail would automatically route to your 2nd location. (same as web traffic would reroute during that time) Yay! No mail bounced or lost. You will want to configure your email client to check mail at both locations on a regular basis. It is not complicated to do so and only requires one initial setup session on your part.

ALTERNATELY, you may prefer this service:

If your primary webmail server is unavailable, your incoming mails can be queued by backup mailservers at a network location independent of the primary and secondary networks. The queue service allows each domain 1GB of mail storage and continually checks to see if your mail server is back online and reachable. When your primary mail server responds successfully, the queued mail is then delivered to your mail server.

The advantage to this method is your email program does not have to be configured to do anything but check the same place for mail at all times. This queue service carries a separate one-time setup fee of $15.

  9. Once you have loaded a site and configured emails, the backup site is ready to perform as a 100% Uptime Solution!

** SOME IMPORTANT NOTES **

Depending on what programs and scripts you use in your website, the backup account may not be a perfect mirror of your primary account, because of server and script differences between the 2. However, a backup account will play a vital role in maintaining your email services and web presence during any outage or disruption at your primary server, network or upline route.

Unless you are an advanced user, managing individual DNS records can be complex and difficult. If you mismanage the records, your site and domain services can become unavailable. Leave the editing to us. In order to utilize our 100% Uptime Solutions service, you will have to change your nameservers only at your registrar. Your registration record remains entirely in your ownership. To remain with backup protection, your nameservers must be in certain names, but ultimately does not prevent you from changing hosts. This is standard procedure.
